Who are we?

The Library Squad is a group of parent volunteers who run the Monarch Library.

We provide access to beautiful, well-written, high-interest  books for all Magnolia students. Guides and students in grades 1 through 7 will be able to check out these books to take home to read. The students in Children’s House will get to choose a book to keep in the classroom for the week.

How can I help?

Join the Squad!

The volunteer work will include:

  • chatting with kids about their book choices

  • scanning books for check out

  • and reshelving the returns

We will have a lead for each library day so there’s no need to have any prior experience.

To get started, choose a date to volunteer, and sign up here!

Do you accept book donations?

Yes! We would be happy to include any of your gently used, high interest books - the kind that your kid would be excited to share with a friend.

We are looking for early readers, chapter books, graphic novels, newer reference books, and appealing nonfiction in English and Spanish.

There is a bin in the office on Nora’s desk for donations.

Do you have a wishlist I can purchase books for the library from?

We sure do! As a 100% donation-funded program, community contributions are very important to sustaining and growing our collection.

  • Bookshop.org (Supports local and independent bookstores. Consider choosing First Light Books as your local shop, a Magnolia family-owned business and supporter of the Monarch Library.)

  • Thriftbooks (Used books, great prices! Please check books selected for purchase are of “Very Good” or “Like New” condition.

  • Amazon

Wait! I have more questions!

How can I tell the difference between a Monarch Library book and a classroom library book?

Monarch Library books will have this sticker on the cover:

The Magnolia Montessori for All logo is on the left, next to the words "Please return this book to our library"

How long can students keep the books?

Students can keep their book checked out as long as they need (within reason) but will be unable to check out more until it is returned.

Can teachers check out books?

YES! Teachers are welcome to check out books for their classroom, research projects, or for read-alouds. If there are no volunteers present, you can write down your check-outs on the clipboard.

What happens if a book is misplaced or destroyed?

We understand this happens. The student can let us know, and we will reset their account. If it becomes an issue, we may ask for the student to keep their books at school in their cubby rather than taking them home. We appreciate but do not require replacing lost or damaged books.
